Mission of the Virginia Christian Alliance

Introduction to the Virginia Christian Alliance

The mission of the VIRGINIA CHRISTIAN ALLIANCE is to promote moral, social and scientific issues we face today from a Biblical point of view. In addition we will refute and oppose, not with hate, but with facts and humor, the secular cultural abuses that have overridden laws and standards of conduct of the past.

We will encourage Christians to participate in these efforts through conferences, development of position papers, booklets and tracts, radio/TV spots, newspaper ads and articles and letters-to-the editor, web sites, newsletters and providing speakers for church and civic meetings.

While non-denominational, we believe in the fundamentals of the Christian Faith, the Holy Bible to be the inspired Word of God, One God existent in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the preeminence of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, death and resurrection, and the need for each individual to accept Jesus as his personal Savior, the promise of everlasting Life if we do and the promise of eternal Hell if we do not. We believe in the presence of the Holy Spirit to help us live an obedient and godly life and we look forward to the return of the Lord Jesus.

We believe Jesus is completely different from the founders of other religions and He cannot be listed with nor compared to the founders of Hinduism, Buddha, Confucius, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, etc. He is above and supreme to all man-led organizations and churches. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to God the Father except through Him. JESUS IS KING.

A Brief History of Virginia Christian Alliance

Virginia Christian Alliance was organized legally as a corporation on January 8, 2009 by Greene Hollowell, Steve Waters, and Keith Fournier, Esq. Upon Keith’s retirement, Elaine Hanger, an advocate for the Marriage Amendment and pro-life activist, was added to the VCA team. Concurrently, Virginia Christian Action was incorporated and application for a 501 (c) (4) was made. Originally conceived as a Richmond only entity, it was soon decided to expand VCA’s reach state-wide.

During this same period of time, Don Blake, Rev. Joe Ellison, Steve Waters, and others were developing The Council for Biblical Principles. Steve Waters, who was involved in both efforts, recommended bringing the two organizations together. Because VCA was an established 501 (c) (3), and had satisfied all the requirements for a non-profit entity, The Council for Biblical Principles folded into Virginia Christian Alliance. Don Blake was named Chairman and President.

Elaine Hanger invited Greene and Steve to hear Terry Beatley, founder of pro-life organization, The Hosea Initiative, speak at the Southside Church of the Nazarene. All immediately agreed that Terry should join VCA’s Board of Directors. Elaine then recommended Dr. Scott Walsh from VCU/MCV whom she had heard give a Creation talk. Dr. Walsh was interviewed by Greene and Terry and he agreed to join VCA as a Creation Advisor. In turn, Dr. Walsh recommended Dr. David DeWitt, Chairman of the Science Department and Creation Studies at Liberty University. Dr. DeWitt was asked and accepted our invitation to join our Advisory Board. Another recommendation by Elaine Hanger, Reverend Pat Fiordelise, pastor of Kingsland Baptist Church joined VCA to lead our Pastors for Life effort. Elaine’s husband, Harry Hanger, then joined us as a facilitator for The Truth Project.

Our main effort is to make presentations on the seven focus areas as outlined on our website and in the booklet Your Choice written by VCA Founder, Greene Hollowell.

You can learn more about our current Board of Directors and Advisory Board members by clicking on the appropriate links. VCA’s Board and Advisors are all volunteers. Most work full-time in addition to their primary ministries and VCA activities. We would like to increase the number of Advisors located outside of the Richmond metro area to help VCA expand our ministry – especially in locations with colleges and universities.

Please contact us if you are, or know Christian brothers and sisters who:

  • Agree with our seven focus areas.
  • Possess the knowledge, ability, and willingness to make presentations on one or more of those topics.
  • Want to be actively involved in leading others to honor and obey God’s principles and commands as revealed in the Holy Bible.
